The Association's education program provides the most current and accurate information on CFIDS to person with CFIDS, their family and friends, members of the medical community, the media and the general public. The goal of the Association's public policy agenda is to shift the burden of funding legitimizing science from patients to the federal government and to increase involvement of CFIDS advocates in the process of developing federal health policy as it relates to CFIDS. Since 1987, The CFIDS Association has funded more than $3.7 million in CFIDS research projects. These studies have led to promising new advances in determining the prevalence of CFIDS, understanding the possible role of viruses, defining immune abnormalities, uncovering new treatment methods and identifying genetic factors.
