Myths about FBI Employment
 
 
Myth: FBI does not hire minorities and women.
Reality FBI is an equal opportunity workplace. There is no discrimination based on color, race, religion, national origin, political affiliation, marital status, disability, age, sex, sexual orientation, membership or non-membership in an employee organization, or personal favoritism. FBI is actively trying to create a diverse work environment and encourages women and minorities to apply for positions to better reflect America's current demographics.
 
Myth: FBI agents can't have a family life because of the secrecy and danger involved in the job.
Reality The FBI understands their employee's family needs and provides them with benefits such as family and medical leave, maternity leave, paternity leave, and family friendly leave.
 
Myth: Only jobs available at the FBI are in law enforcement, and you have to have a law enforcement degree.
Reality The FBI has a variety of job opportunities based upon the needs and desires of the applicant. The FBI hires not only for Special Agent positions, but also Professional Support positions. In addition,the FBI agents and professionals are working everyday to keep our country safe, and the degree of danger varies with the type of assignment. The death statistics for the FBI are lower than most people think, with only 55 casualties since its creation in 1908.
