FBI RECRUITS STUDENTS AND FRESH IDEAS
San Jose State Students Get Hands-On Experience in the Real World
San Jose, CA - September 15, 2003 - The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announces it will sponsor a unique hands-on industry-education course in which marketing students from eight schools around the country will participate and promote job opportunities within the agency. The FBI is actively trying to diversify its workforce by recruiting students and second career professionals focusing their efforts on opportunities for minorities and women.
The eight schools participating in the FBI program are: Clark Atlanta University, Northeastern State University, Howard University, Jackson State University, Virginia State University, California State University Fullerton, San Jose State University, and University of Texas at San Antonio.
As one of the schools participating in this unique program, ten business students from San Jose State University are being given an opportunity to put their education to work in the real world. Over the next 18 weeks, these students will create a working marketing agency - Diverse Promotions, and will be responsible for researching, implementing, and evaluating an integrated marketing campaign for the FBI. The students will be given a $2,500 budget to help them bring their plans to life. This unique partnership is part of an industry-education program sponsored by the FBI, known as the FBI Collegiate Marketing and Recruitment Program.
The FBI Collegiate Marketing and Recruitment Program provides students with the rare opportunity to apply classroom teachings to real-world business practices. The goal of the program is to design and implement a marketing campaign aimed at educating their target market about the FBI and the career opportunities available to women and minorities, especially in the areas of Accounting, Finance, Architecture, Science, Computers, Engineering, Biology, Life Science majors. The FBI is also looking for individuals with knowledge of languages they consider critical such as Chinese, Vietnamese, Arabic, Korean and Kurdish to name a few.
The college campus is the ideal environment to teach young adults about the benefits of working for the FBI and the career opportunities they provide. And who better to talk to students about exciting new career options than other students?
After organizing their agency and researching their target market, the students will spend the first half of the Fall 2003 formulating their marketing strategy recommendations and campaign ideas. After presenting their concept to representatives of the FBI, they will execute their campaign as well as track and analyze its results. The program culminates in a formal, agency-style presentation by the students to dignitaries and representatives of the FBI. The presentation is a unique opportunity for students to develop public speaking and presentation skills, in addition to building self-confidence.
Today's college students are in a "catch-22" when entering the job market-they lack experience and find themselves in a situation where they cannot find a job due to their inexperience. The FBI Collegiate Marketing and Recruitment Program effectively bridges the gap between industry and education; providing students with the hands-on, experiential learning necessary to find employment. The business partnership also allows the students to work with an organization that offers several career options.
EdVenture Partners, an education marketing company based in Berkeley, CA has designed unique industry-education partnerships at over 300 campuses across the United States. EdVenture Partners, in conjunction with the FBI, provides each student agency with ongoing resources, guidance, and a project budget to implement their marketing campaign.
